I hope I didn't throw anyone with my "Spanglish" title. In English it would read "Homework Fun - Week Three." Just to bring everyone up to date with my happenings, my internet is down at home so I have to walk BLOCKS to the public library just to get my e-mail. Man, will I ever have a story to tell my kids... Anyway, I am scheduled to have Qwest come and install internet service this next Thursday (thanks for the suggestion German).
I did finish the GT class last week, so expect a high level of instruction this next year. In fact, it is going to approach perfection. Just wait. You'll see. :)
On a more serious note, we only had about 50% participation this past week so if you happen to see (or e-mail) other students in the class, remind them to log on and tell me they are continuing to progress on their homework.

Okay, so to answer a specific question -
compound interest -
the idea behind compound interest is that you gain (or pay, depending on your situation) interest on your interest, which is what separates it from simple interest where you only pay interest on the principle. The formula for simple interest (not that you asked) is: (amount owed = principle * rate * time) where rate and time are in the same units of time (like months or years or days, whatever). So if a person borrowed $100 at 6% interest for 3 years they would owe ($100 * 1.06 * 3) $118. Compound interest takes it up a notch and its equation is (amount owed = principle * rate^time) so in that same example the person who borrowed $100 at 6% compound interest for three years would pay ($100 * 1.06^3) $119.10. Not a big difference in this example, but it is HUGE when you look at credit card companies who charge outrageous interest (some as high as 30% yearly) and compound the interest DAILY. I hope this helps.

i finished week 3 problems, but im checking them right now, and #4 on the two-step equation word problems, its 15, but their answer is 14, which you cant do, so yea. and the rest of all the problems i got them all right
ive been awake since 4:00am, and im not tired. i was hungry since i didnt really eat anything yesterday, so i ate 1/2 of a bag o grapes, and a bottle o vanilla milk. it was yummy, but now i dont feel good.

So, I am at a technology conference at PHS today and tomorrow. There are so many more TOYS I NEED for the classroom. There is this mobile mouse that you can use to control your computer from anywhere in the classroom, of course it is best used with a Smart Board, which I also need. And I need the TI Navigator system...if only OB1 wasn't such a cheap skate...

To find the Greatest Common Factor of 39V and 30UV you do a factor tree for each to find their prime factorizations. 39V's would be 3*13*V and 30UV's would be 2*3*5*U*V. Then you circle what they have in common - 3*V or 3V which is what your GCF would be.
Neigh - I shared (hope you don't mind) your Solving for Sanity paper at the conference last week. They seem to think you could get it published if you wrote it for a different audience (i.e. not directly to OB1). I agree.

hmm, i guess not. oh ya and about getting that thing published, um, that's ok. it would be really cool but too much work. ya i know i did work really hard to get it done for a grade, but i mean, that's a GRADE. if i was offered extra credit for getting my paper published (hint hint) then i might try. but i still might not. becuz its just a school paper, i mean, if i really want something published then i wouldnt write it to OB. i would write it different i guess. idk, that idea just scares me. maybe when i grow up i can write a book and include that idea in it. but the essay is too small to be published. cool idea tho.

p.s. Abbs - Speaking of censorship and books, "Speak" is a great book. It was #1 on the ALA's most banned books list for almost a year after it came out (which just made it wildly popular - even I had to read it and it's a total girl book). I would recommend it to anyone with a caution towards some serious subject matter in there.

You guys are all a bunch of freaks. But you're my freaks! hey - there are way more people (my people, I mean 8th graders) blogging here than on my site. Is that because fewer people are done with their books? I'm leaving for Denmark on Thursday and hope to have new threads posted for all the books, so check them out. By the way, I'm doing very well with my math assignments. Just a couple of things I need a review on. Cookie, maybe when I return from transAtlantic journeys, we can get our girls together for a play date and you can help me review. Hey - it's been 20 years since I've done math.
